On March 12^th, took place the Jean Monnet Conference „Intellectual Property Development in the EU and Moldova: Challenges and Perspectives”. This conference is an activity organized within the project Jean Monnet Support to Associations in European Integration and Intellectual Property Protection Studies / EUPROIN, implemented by Association of Legal Culture Henri Capitant Moldova with the support of Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.

The purpose of the Conference was to strengthen the understanding and awareness of researchers on the development of intellectual property (IP) in the EU and beyond the EU, including Moldova; to increase the visibility of the research on issues related to IP protection; to inform and sensitize the representatives of NGOs and civil servants on the importance of IP development for Moldova’s integration and its economic growth; to analyze the achievements and problems of IP development, etc.

The event was opened with a greeting message by Mrs. Rodica Crudu, PhD, associate professor, Director of Programs and Projects within AO Henri Capitant Moldova, who is also the coordinator of the EUPROIN project. With greeting messages also participated:

– Dr. Dorin Cimil, President of AO Henri Captain Moldova;

– Dr. Natalia Mogol, Deputy General Manager, State Intellectual Property Agency (AGEPI);

– Mr. Alexandre Chavanne, French Alliance of Moldova.

The plenary session of the conference was opened by GIL ROBLES Jose Mª, Honorary President of European International Movement and Honorary President of EuroMediterranean University Institute, Former European Parliament President (1997-1999).

For the plenary session, 3 presentations were selected to give insights about the three parallel panels that followed after the coffee break, having as  speakers:

• Professor HEINEMANN Andreas, Faculty of Law, University of Zurich, Switzerland; member of the Swiss Competition Committee. He delivered the presentation entitled „Patent Strategies and Competition Law„. Discussions on the subject of interference between intellectual property and competition continued in panel 1 “Competition, Intellectual Property and Economic Growth”, moderated by Dr. Rodica Crudu

Dr. PAVIS Mathilde, Senior Lecturer, Exeter Law School, University of Exeter who delivered a presentation on the topic: “The impact of artificial intelligence on the use and protection of performances”. Discussions on this topic continued in panel nr. 2 „Intellectual Property in support of creative industries”, which was moderated by Dr. Natalia Mogol.

• PENIN Julien, Prof., Faculty of economics and management, University of Strasbourg, who spoke about „Obstacle or accelerator of innovation? Intellectual property at a crossroads„. Discussions on this topic continued in panel nr. 3 entitled „European Integration and Intellectual Property Protection”, this panel being moderated by Dr. Hab. Olesea Plotnic and Dr. Dorin Cimil.

During the conference, researchers from such countries as: France, Great Britain, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, presented their results.

The theme of the conference and the topics addressed during the event were of great interest, being registered over 90 participants.

Today, March 9, 2021, a seminar entitled „European Union and Intellectual Property Protection” was organized for approx. 30 young people from the left bank of the Dniester, Tiraspol.

The event was organized within the Jean Monnet Support to Associations project in European Integration and Intellectual Property Protection Studies / EUPROIN, no. ref. 611344-EPP-1-2019-1-MD-EPPJMO-SUPPA, implemented by the AO of Legal Culture Henri Capitant, with the support of the Erasmus + program of the European Union.

This seminar was organized in collaboration with the State University of Tiraspol „Taras Shevcenco”, which, during this event, was represented by Ms. Vladlena LISENCO, Dr. Hab., Associate professor, who also moderated this event.

As speakers in this seminar participated:

– Rodica Crudu, PhD, associate professor, coordinator of the EUPROIN project, who made a presentation of the project, but also spoke about the regulatory framework for intellectual property protection in the context of implementing the Association Agreement with the European Union;

– Vladlena Lisenco, member of the EUPROIN project implementation team, who spoke on the legal dimension of intellectual property protection policy and competition policy;

– Olesea Plotnic, dr. hab., member of the EUPROIN project implementation team, with the presentation “Entrepreneurial activity in the exercise of intellectual property rights. Aspects of national and EU legislation „

The guest speaker at this seminar was Dr. Karsten NOWROT, Professor of Public Law, European Law and International Economic Law at Hamburg University, Germany, who spoke to young people about “Ensuring global access to COVID-19 vaccines in the light of intellectual property rights – Regulatory Options under the TRIPS Agreement”.

All the presentation presented high interest to the participants of this seminar, which ended with a Questions and Answers session.

The Jean Monnet Conference “Development of intellectual property in the EU and Moldova: challenges and perspectives”, was organized on March 12, 2020 by the Henri Capitant Moldova Legal Culture Association.

The purpose of the Conference was to strengthen the understanding and awareness of Moldovan researchers on the development of intellectual property (IP) in the EU and Moldova; to inform and sensitize the representatives of NGOs and civil servants from Moldova on the importance of IP development for the integration and economic growth of Moldova; to analyze the achievements and problems of IP development in the EU and Moldova; to increase the visibility of the research of the Republic of Moldova on issues related to IP protection, etc

The proceedings of the conference were structured on the following panels:

• Intellectual Property and Competition: Interference and Challenges
• Intellectual property and creative industries
• European integration and intellectual property protection

The Conference was attended by representatives of public authorities, stakeholders from higher education institutions, including representatives of research organizations, representatives of the business environment and young researchers.

On November 6, 2020, the workshop „The role of intellectual property in developing a successful business” was organized by AO of Legal Culture Henri Captain Moldova in collaboration with AGEPI, ODIMM, French Alliance and French Embassy in the Republic of Moldova
This event is an activity planned and carried out within the Jean Monnet Support to Associations project in European Integration and Intellectual Property Protection Studies / EUPROIN, implemented with the support of the Erasmus + program of the European Union.
The workshop was dedicated to the business environment and decision makers in the field of intellectual property, being also open to academia and the general public.

The objectives of the event were oriented towards:

• strengthening, understanding and awareness of the role of intellectual property development in the EU and the Republic of Moldova;
• informing and sensitizing the business environment and civil servants in Moldova about the importance of developing intellectual property in the process of European integration, but also the economic growth of Moldova in general
• awareness of the need to integrate intellectual property objects in the development strategies of enterprises, in particular;
• analysis and dissemination of achievements and challenges of intellectual property development in the EU and the Republic of Moldova;
• increasing the visibility of research conducted in the field of issues related to the protection of intellectual property, etc.

The event was opened with a welcoming message from:
• Rodica CRUDU, Dr., associate professor, project coordinator Jean Monnet EUPROIN
• Viorel IUSTIN, General Director of the State Agency for Intellectual Property of the Republic of Moldova (AGEPI)
• Iulia COSTIN, Director General, Organization for the Development of the Small and Medium Enterprises Sector (ODIMM)
• Alexanre Chavanne, representative of the French Alliance of Moldova

Representatives of decision makers stressed the importance of raising awareness of the role of intellectual property and the integration of intellectual property objects in business development strategies in the context of European integration and implementation of the Association Agreement of the Republic of Modlova to the European Union.

During the workshop, the experts from the EUPROIN project, the representative of the World Intellectual Property Agency (WIPO), representatives of AGEPI, etc. were invited to instruct business representatives on the impact of the Association Agreement on the regulatory framework for intellectual property protection, the procedure, cost and available strategies for intellectual property registration.

The event presented an increased interest, in the subject of protection of intellectual property in the context of implementing the association agreement of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, from the side of the representatives of business environment and decision, being attended by the large number of participants (about 80 – 90 people).
